Catholic News Agency: News about a priest who has given up his respirator is false

Yesterday's news about Italian priest Giuseppe Berardelli, who died of coronavirus after leaving his respirator to a younger man, seems to be incorrect.

>> This is a priest who died after being left breathing to a younger patient

Recall that the priest was bought by a parish priest after suffering from a coronavirus since he was everyone's favorite. Nevertheless, the priest left the respirator to the younger man, though he did not know him at all.

Confirmed from sources close to the priest

The story was reported by many media outlets, but in the meantime it turned out to be fake news.

“Those who knew Giuseppe Berardelli are fond of remembering him and will remember him as a sacrificial man, but reports of a respirator donated to a younger person are incorrect,” the diocese's chief secretary confirmed, according to Catholic News Agency.

His colleague said he believed the late priest would relinquish his place in the intensive care unit because of a younger patient, but could not be confirmed with certainty.

The BBC also reported that it was fake news, citing close friends of the deceased as sources.

Berardelli is one of 23 priests reported to have died of coronavirus infection in the Diocese of Bergamo, in one of the hardest hit regions in Italy.
