Coronavirus: Apple closes all stores outside of China

The dramatic measures are part of a wider and heightened response from the company announced by Tim Cook, reports Independent.

Apple Stores will close at least until March 27, he said. As well as selling Apple products, its retail stores serve as the first point of contact for people who have problems with their devices.

Cook directed the affected users to Apple's online sites. In addition to closing stores, all Apple staff will be told to work from home if they can.

The company said affected staff will be paid as normal and the company’s permit rules will be expanded to allow people to take time off work related to problems with Covid-19, such as caring for loved ones.

While announcing that stores worldwide were closed, Cook said all stores in China would now be reopened.

The on-site store closed in early February as coronavirus spread rapidly throughout the country. He said the company had learned from the experience of closing stores and taking other precautions in China, and that they would now be implemented worldwide.
