The video-sharing site Google has announced that it will limit all European leaks to the standard setting in order to manage the load on its network, reports Metro, transmits .

Follow the advice of the EU Internal Market Commission that everyone should limit their flow to the standard setting to minimize network bottlenecks as millions more people go online as a result of social isolation to fight the pandemic.

YouTube issued the following statement: “We are making a commitment to temporarily pass all EU traffic to the standard setting.”

The company said it had so far seen little change for use, instead mainly seeing changes to the usage patterns with more people at home, with use expanding over longer hours.

Since YouTube is the largest video streaming platform on the Internet, switching to standard setting should significantly free up traffic on European networks.

Netflix said the move would see a 25% reduction in its traffic to Europe's networks.

As people started working from home, mobile networks including O2, EE, Vodafone and Tre all began to struggle.

Many customers took to social media to complain that they had been unable to make calls all morning, with some claiming the business had already slowed dramatically.

Specifically, O2, Vodafone and Three were unable to connect to EE and EE customers were unable to connect to O2, Vodafone and Three.
