Huge floods in Kenya, at least 12 people killed, including 7 children

At least 12 people have been killed in flooding following heavy rains in West Pokot County, Kenya, the BBC reports.

Local media outlets write that at least 12 people were found, including seven children, today. Otherwise, the flooded West Pokot region is located 350 kilometers northwest of Nairobi's capital.

The roads are impassable, and the bridge is drained of water

The floods that came after heavy rains hit the villages of Nyarkulian and Parua and made it difficult to get through as the roads were not walkable and one bridge was carried off by water. Rescue crews are on the ground trying to find the missing people.

West Pokot County Commissioner Apollo Okello said two children were rescued from a devastated mud-covered home.

“They were rushed to the hospital,” he added.

The floods came after heavy rains in eastern Africa all week.
