Lockdown: Chinese company donates palliatives to rural dwellers in Kwara

A Chinese construction company, handling ongoing dualisation of llorin-Jebba highway in Kwara, has donated food items worth N1.5 million to residents of Pekee and environs to cushion effect of the lockdown.



The food items, which were distributed at the door steps of the beneficiaries who are residents along the road being constructed, included 100 packets of noodles and 100 bags of 50kg of rice.

Several residents of Pekee and other adjourning villages trooped out enmasse along the dual carriage way under construction to collect the palliatives.

In his remarks after presentation of the food items, representative of the Federal Controller of Works in Kwara, Mr Babatunde Tajudeen, described the gesture as noble

Tajudeen disclosed that the friendly nature of Pekee people to the construction company made the donation of the palliative a reality.

He said the items wete aimed at ameliorating their sufferings during the current lockdown.

“This is what we use to tell our people. Wherever the Federal Government is doing project, let us give our support by making the environment conducive for progressive work,’’ he said.

The Public Relations Officer of the Chinese Construction Company, Mr Sunday Arokoyo, said presentation of the palliative was part of the social responsibility of the company.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Head of Pekee community, Alhaji Abdulahi Oloola, thanked the company for the kind gesture.

He said the palliatives would go a long way in cushioning the effect of the lockdown occasioned by Coronavirus pandemic. (NAN)
