But this is not the only galaxy to collide with the Milky Way. Magellanic clouds, or two messy dwarf galaxies orbiting us, have already begun to approach us, and it seems that in some sense a clash has begun between our galaxy and the Magellanic Big and Small Clouds. First signs of a collision



Astronomers have been observing a long gas footprint extending from Magellanic Clouds since the 1960s, which we call Magellan Creek. That gas footprint extends through the galactic pole south of the Milky Way, writes EarthSky.

Magellan clouds are supposed to collide with our galaxy for billions of years in the true sense of the word, but according to the latest data presented by astronomers at the American Astronomical Association (AAS) rally in Honolulu on January 8, they appear to already be first showing the collision signs.

Specifically, young stars usually form as they merge galaxies, and astronomers have recently observed a new cluster of stars on the periphery of our galaxy, near Magelan's clutter. The area is home to the oldest stars in our galaxy, and experts have discovered that the stars of this group are made up of material from the Magelan cloud, transmits KosovaPress.

Scientists have recently realized that the Great Magellanic Cloud (LMC) is a threat to our galaxy.

According to a study published in the January 2019 issue of the journal Science Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, the Great Magellanic Cloud is sure to collide with our galaxy long before we thought it.

The discovery came after scientists made computer simulations of the LMC movement.

Scientists estimate that the LMC is currently about 163,000 light-years away and is moving at a speed of 400 kilometers per second. But simulations by astrophysicists at Durham University show that the Great Magellanic Cloud will slow down at some point, return to us, and collide with our galaxy. The collision should occur after about 2.5 billion years.

If humanity survives for so long, the true spectacle awaits it.

There is a possibility that a collision would activate a black hole in the center of our galaxy and begin to devour everything around it, magnifying ten times, transmits KosovaPress.

Scientists suspect that as the Milky Way and LMC merge, the stars or planets will collide with each other, but a future galaxy of more than 250 billion stars will still make a mess inside our Milky Way, according to astrophysicist Carlos Frank from Durham University.

“Everything will break down within our galaxy, and the solar system can be thrown into outer space. If that happens, I doubt whether our descendants, if any, will be able to survive, “he explained.
