Part of China cut off from the world, the Chinese president acknowledged the situation was difficult

CHINESE President Xi Jinping has warned that China is in a difficult situation as an epidemic of viral pneumonia has accelerated, affecting about 1300 people, with 41 dead and affecting Europe and Australia, despite strengthening measures to stop it.

Chinese travel agencies will not be able to sell hotel or group bookings as of Monday, CCTV reported.

Military doctors were sent to Wuhan, a city in central China, where a virus appeared in December, and the entire city was virtually quarantined, and construction of a second hospital was initiated.

China is taking all possible measures to stop the spread of coronaviruses and has set traffic restrictions, a maximum alert in Hong Kong, systematic traffic controls in the north and south of the country.

President Xi Jinping said at a meeting of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party Political Bureau, an instance of seven members that govern China, that “the widespread epidemic situation necessitated the centralized and unified leadership of the party's Central Committee and added that the country would win.”

With the exception of Wuhan, almost the entire province of Hubei is cut off from the world, bringing its total quarantine population to over 56 million, practically South Africa's population.

The Chinese military sent three planes into the restricted area from which 450 military doctors and other medical personnel disembarked on Friday.

Some of them have experience in fighting Ebola and SARS, a coronavirus-like strain that killed 650 human lives in mainland China and Hong Kong between 2002 and 2003.

Croats in Wuhan

Four Croatian nationals are currently at the epicenter of the dangerous coronavirus epidemic, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MVEP) confirmed on Saturday and advised against traveling to the area.

MVEP on Saturday confirmed to Hina that four Croatian nationals are in Wuhan, a city of 11 million people in Hubei province.

Most of the infected and almost all died in Hubei, where officials imposed strict restrictions on travel and public gatherings.

The Ministry advised citizens not to travel to that part of China and urged them to follow the notices of Chinese authorities and the World Health Organization.

The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control has announced that cases have been confirmed in Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Vietnam, Nepal, Malaysia.

Five cases were reported in Hong Kong, three in France and two in the United States. And Australia on Saturday confirmed its first case of a new type of coronavirus in the state of Victoria

Coronavirus usually attacks animals, but in some cases can be transmitted to humans, such as the 2003 SARS epidemic.

The virus has triggered the alarm, but there are many unknowns, such as how dangerous it is and how easily it spreads to humans. The virus can cause pneumonia, which in some cases was deadly.

Authorities in Hubei began closing cities Thursday in an effort to prevent the spread of the virus. Quarantines have been introduced in at least 13 cities with a total population of more than 43 million. Public transport was interrupted and airports and train stations closed.

A year of rats with no celebrations and fireworks

China entered the rat year under the sign of coronavirus without firecrackers and no celebrations.

Lunar New Year celebrations that began on Saturday were canceled in many Chinese cities.

Across continental China, travelers are measured for temperature to check for fever, and train stations are closed in several cities.

The highest level of state of emergency has been declared in Hong Kong and school holidays have been extended.

All intercity bus routes will be suspended in Beijing's capital on Sunday, media reported on Saturday.

The United States will return its citizens and diplomats from Wuhan to charter flights on Sunday, the U.S.-based Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday.

The plane will transfer about 230 diplomats and other US citizens and their families.

Washington has received approval from the Chinese Foreign Ministry and other government agencies after talks last days, according to the newspaper.
