Rep, NGO get foreign scholarship for students

The lawmaker representing Badagry Federal Constituency, Babatunde Hunpe, has said he and a non-governmental organisation (NGO), the Education for All Initiative (EFAI), are helping students to get scholarship to study abroad.

The lawmaker said he was aware of the difficulty youths faced in funding their education.

“With necessary requirements, we can use the scholarship opportunities globally to achieve our dreams. This informed my collaboration with EFAI, headed by our own Dr. Seyon-Lanre Daniel of Cyprus International University, Nicosia, to bring this golden opportunity to Badagry.

“It is my desire to provide platforms and opportunities for you, my constituents, to move your lives forward. This is to gain a globally relevant education that will position you as a positive catalyst in the development of our community, state and country.

“This opportunity is open to everyone, irrespective of party affiliation, language or tribe, as long as you fall within Badagry Federal Constituency,” he said

Hunpe said the awareness programme to help students was part of his campaign promises to make a difference in all aspects of human life, especially education and youth development.

Mr. Ayo Peters, an indigene of Badagry, who had benefited from the scholarship, said he had a Master’s degree in History and International Relations from a Canadian university.

“If you are in Nigeria without money but with a solid background, this foreign scholarship will help you to go places…”

“My own case was pathetic. My father died when I was young and my mother was a food vendor. But with this foreign scholarship scheme, I was able to study abroad,” he said.

Dr. Seyon-Lanre Daniel, the head, EFAI, lectured over 1,000 students, who attended the conference, on how to apply for the scholarship.

At the end of the lecture, free forms were given to students who wished to study abroad from first degree to PhD.

Miss Oyinkansola Ikotun, one of the students, told reporters that the programme had taught her a lot on how to study abroad without stress.

She said the conference was good for those wishing to study abroad, noting that the requirements they had to pass through were explained.

Ikotun thanked the lawmaker for organising the conference and wished that more of such conferences would be held in future.

Over 2,000 students, who are residents of Badagry, benefited from the conference.
