Slovenia introduces checkpoints at midnight at the border with Austria

SLOVENIA will start controlling passengers at midnight on the Austrian border for the risk of introducing coronavirus, similar to the one it already conducts at some border crossings with Italy, crisis spokesman Jelko Kacin announced on Tuesday.

The decision has already been signed by the Prime Minister of Slovenia, and surveillance will be carried out at 13 checkpoints, former border crossings with Austria, Kacin said, adding that implementation of the decision would start at midnight on Wednesday night.

Foreign nationals just passing through Slovenia will need appropriate confirmation that they are not coronavirus positive, no older than three days, and will have a body temperature of 37.5 degrees Celsius.

In addition, the examination should not show any visible signs of upper respiratory disease, Kacin said.

The said provision does not apply to Slovenian nationals returning to their homeland who have a different regime, as well as dual owners, that is, Slovenian or Austrian nationals who have land on the other side of the border.

Emergency and humanitarian crossings and transport of goods in transit in convoys will be allowed, Kacin explained.
