The London attacker wore a fake explosive vest and attacked people with a machete

BRITISH police say she believes the attacker she killed in London after stabbing two people with a knife had links to Islamist terrorism and said she had a fake explosive device tied to her body.

According to witnesses, he entered the store and started attacking people with a machete, then went out on the road and stabbed a woman on a bicycle. He had a silver vest on his chest that acted as an explosive device, but it turned out to be a fake bomb.

The attacker, whose identity is not yet known, was under active police scrutiny over suspected terrorism charges, according to a Bell Ribeiro-Addy County deputy in a statement.

The investigation is being led by the counterterrorism department

“The device was taped to the suspect's body and experts were called. The cordons were deployed and we soon found out it was a false device,” said Lucy D'Orsi of the London Police.

“The incident was immediately reported as terrorist and believed to be related to Islamists,” she said.

She added that the investigation is now being conducted by the police counter-terrorism department.

Three people were injured, two of whom were stabbed and one is in serious condition, D'Orsi said. A third person sustained injuries with glass that exploded when police opened fire.

The last such event in London was in November

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Twitter: “Thanks to all the emergency services who responded in a timely manner to this incident in Streatham, which was declared a terrorist act by police.” “My thoughts are with those who were injured and affected,” he added.

The latest incident of this type occurred in London in November when police shot a man wearing a fake explosive vest and stabbed two people and wounded three others before being beaten by a group of people on the scene. Authorities have declared the act a terrorist act.

In November, the perpetrator of the attack, Usman Khan, 28, was convicted of terrorism and released after serving half of his sentence and participating in the ex-prisoners' rehabilitation program.

After Khan killed two people, Prime Minister Boris Johnson's government announced a new law providing for more severe penalties for perpetrators of terrorist attacks, banning early release and increasing the budget line for combating terrorism.
