The supercomputer identifies 77 drugs that can defeat the coronavirus

Known as 'Summit', IBM's supercomputer was commissioned by researchers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the US to find a cure for COVID-19, writes Daily Mail.

The study focused on the method the virus uses to attach to cells and looked for chemical compounds that could prevent it from doing so.

Researchers in the United States said they now have a list of drugs that can work to bind the virus and prevent it from injecting cells.

“We hypothesize that the identified molecules can be reassessed to limit viral recognition of host cells and / or disruption of core virus interactions,” the scientists said.

Further experimental testing on the identified list of chemicals is now needed to determine if any of them can be used to create a treatment for the virus.
