FOUR Croatian nationals are currently in the Chinese city of Wuhan, the epicenter of the dangerous coronavirus epidemic, confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MVEP) and advised not to travel to the area.

The Coronavirus has so far killed at least 41 people and infected nearly 1300 worldwide since it was discovered in Wuhan, about 800 kilometers from Shanghai, late last year.

On Saturday, MVEP confirmed to Hina that four Croatian nationals are in the city with an population of 11 million in the province of Hubei.

The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control has announced that cases have been confirmed in Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Vietnam, Nepal, Malaysia, France and Australia.

The center expects further spread of this virus previously unknown to medicine. Coronavirus usually attacks animals, but in some cases can be transmitted to humans, such as the 2003 SARS epidemic.

Authorities in Hubei began closing cities Thursday in an effort to prevent the spread of the virus. Quarantines have been introduced in at least 13 cities, with a total population of more than 43 million people. Public transport was interrupted and airports and train stations closed.
