By Chinyere Okoroafor

The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has praised the outgoing Police Commissioner (CP) in Lagos State, Mr Zubairu Muazu for his support in building the PCRC brand.

PCRC leaders, traditional rulers and other stakeholders gave the commendation during the Lagos State PCRC 2019 dinner, fundraising and award night which held recently at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island.

The event, with the theme; ‘Community policing: A veritable partnership for safer society- The PCRC connection” highlighted the importance of community policing in the country.

PCRC Lagos State Chairman, Apostle Kehinde Adewale Sowemimo, described Muazu, now an Assistant Inspector of Police (AIG), as an empathetic community policing oriented officer.

Sowemimo said: ”The PCRC, on behalf of the good people of the State of Excellence, do appreciate this gentleman, who calmly listened to complaints with a view to solving whatever problems brought before him.

We say, ‘E se sir,’ and more importantly for your excellent policing of Lagos state command in the last few months. Your community policing acumen, humility, interest and support for the PCRC is unprecedented.

We pray that God will reward you in many ways.

“There are times when police officers will shoot a person, Muazu will go to the family of the person to console them and assure them of justice.”

He also praised the Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers for making Lagos the reference point for public safety and security as well as the Nigeria Policing Programme (NPP) for its support for PCRC in Lagos.

Sowemimo, who reviewed numerous executed and on-going projects of PCRC in Lagos, also highlighted PCRC activities in ensuring a safer community through advocacy and sensitisation of community leaders, market leaders and others.

Chairman of the occasion, Oba Fredrick Akinruntan, who was represented by Otunba Adeyemi Sebastine, suggested that there should be a constitutional role for monarchs in terms of governance and particularly security, adding that the beginning of something is the solution of it.
