Trump confirms: Osama bin Laden's son is dead

US President Donald Trump has confirmed that Osama bin Laden's son, Hamza bin Laden, has been killed.

He said Hamza bin Laden was killed in a US counterterrorism operation, AFP reports.

Recall, the US Department of State has claimed since last month that bin Laden's son was killed.

Trump added that Hamza bin Laden was killed in Afghanistan.

His death has been rumored since July

The US media reported, in late July, that Hamza bin Laden was dead.

US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper confirmed this information in mid-August.

Asked about Hamza bin Laden's death during an interview on US cable channel Fox Esper, he did not provide details of the operation during which he was killed.

“I don't know the details. If they were known, I would share them with you,” he said at the time.

A million dollars for information

Hamz bin Laden was considered the favorite son, even the heir of Osama bin Laden, the founder of the network that carried out the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 on New York and the Pentagon.

The name of the 30-year-old is on the US black list of people accused of terrorism, according to three US officials.

Washington offered a $ 1 million reward in February for any information that would allow his arrest.

Hamzu bin Laden was often considered the prince's successor to jihad. Some documents, including letters revealed by France Presse in May 2015, confirm that Osama bin Laden regarded him as his successor at the forefront of world jihad against the West.

Hamzi bin Laden was stripped of his Saudi citizenship in March.
