Trump says America has nothing to do with the failure to launch an Iranian satellite

US President Donald Trump has said that the United States is not involved in the missile launch in Iran.

In a tweet accompanied by a satellite photo, Trump wrote that this “catastrophic accident occurred during recent preparations” for the launch of the Safir rocket from Semnan, northern Iran.

The United States of America was not involved in a catastrophic accident during the final launch of preparations for the Safir SLV Launch at Semnan Launch Site One in Iran. I wish Iran best wishes and good luck in determining what happened at Site One. pic.twitter.com/z0iDj2L0Y3

The rocket exploded on a launch ramp Thursday at a space center in northern Iran, an Iranian official said. An American official also said Iran had suffered a failed satellite launch.

“I express my condolences to Iran and wish them to find out what happened,” he wrote.

Iran claims that its missile program is intended for civilian use in space. But rockets use technology similar to long-range ballistic missiles, so Washington is suspicious.

There is intense tension between Iran and the United States following the US unilateral withdrawal in May 2018 from an international agreement on the Iranian nuclear program signed three years earlier.
