Twitter boss: We will never have the option to edit tweets

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has come forward to respond to requests from users of this social network. Specifically, since Twitter was founded, they have been looking for options to edit posts, and the company has always avoided this topic or stated that they were “considering the idea.”

Now, Dorsey has announced that Twitter will “probably never” have an option to edit posts that would allow users to correct errors.

In a video interview for Wired, in which he answered questions from users, he was very direct when it came to the question of whether editing would be enabled in 2020.

“The answer is no,” Dorsey said, explaining that the initial decision was that the option did not exist because Twitter began its operation “as an SMS, messaging service” and wants to stick to its roots.

“As you all know, when you send a message, you can't pull it. We want to preserve that feeling we had in the early days,” he claims.

Dorsey acknowledged that things have changed a lot since 2006 and that some users have every right to seek editing because most of them want to correct typing errors without having to delete the tweet with an error and thus lose the number of likes and retweets earned.

Still, he admitted that they were considering enabling this option for a minute after it was posted or for 30 seconds, enough time to correct a typo or link that doesn't work. However, the problem would arise if they began to abuse this option because the user could completely change the content of their tweet, which those who retweeted it would not know, and so “Twitter would spread something that they did not intend to expand.”
