Two dead in a primary school shooting in Mexico, an 8-year-old shot in a classroom

TWO people were killed and six others injured in a shooting at an elementary school in the Mexican city of Torreon, CNN reported. An eleven-year-old boy killed a 50-year-old teacher and himself and injured six people, Coahuile prosecutors said.

The child entered the school with a gun and started shooting at the teachers

The shooting happened at the Cervantes de Torreón school in the city of Torreon in the Mexican state of Coahuila, located on the Texas border.

According to initial reports, the child entered the school with a weapon and began firing at the teacher before allegedly firing at himself.

Five students and a physical education teacher were injured, one of whom is in critical condition.

The juvenile assailant had two rifles, one of large caliber

“The boy asked for permission to go out and change his pants. He was gone for a long time. The teacher came out, warned him and that's when the problems started,” prosecutor Maurilio Ochoa told television.

The juvenile assailant had two rifles, one of large caliber.

School shootings are rare in Mexico. In January 2017, a five-year-old boy opened fire at a school in Monterrey. He killed the teacher and himself.
