Why science says single people live better

It is not just a thought, but a scientific statement. In fact, different research has shown that life without a loved one can be equally – if not more – satisfying from different perspectives.

The latest is the one conducted by Dr. Bella DePaulo at the University of California.

According to the sociologist and her team, people who are free of sentimental attachments are more comfortable at work and able to manage their personal relationships with friends, family and colleagues better. That is why:

The weight of being single

According to the latest data, the tendency to be single is constantly increasing. Over the next four years, growth is projected worldwide, with up to 20% of people living alone, especially in big cities.

Why it's okay to stay single

The study by Dr. Bella DePaulo, a social psychologist at the University of California, conducted over 814 people, single and married. The results show that people who were not in a relationship were more motivated and satisfied than those who were couples. Single people were happy with their personal growth and achieved their goals faster than others. They also had closer relationships with relatives, friends, and colleagues than married participants.

Limits on couple

Dr. DePaulo's study found that married people tend to become more non-social, locking themselves in the family unit, leaving less and cultivating less interpersonal relationships outside of the couple.

Despite the advantages of being single, DePaulo does not express an opinion on what the best sentimental situation is.

Less stress

It sounds unbelievable to say, but another study conducted by two scientists at Lafayette College and the University of Miami has found that single people are less likely to experience emotions than married people.

Single people would be better able to manage negative emotions such as anxiety and stress by promoting personal development.

Find single people

If you are not happy with your love life, it could be your DNA's fault. A Beijing University study has identified a gene that will determine 20% more chances of staying single. It is a signal for 5-HTA1, consisting of two alleles, one of which would inhibit the production of serotonin in the brain making the person less socially satisfied and therefore more available for interactions with others.

“Pessimism and neurosis are detrimental to the formation, quality, and stability of relationships; this link between alleles and psychological disorders may decrease the likelihood of dating or may lead to the failure of a relationship,” the researchers commented. However, we must not allow our genes to govern our lives.
