Zenith Bank donates 1million exercise books to Kano

By Kolade Adeyemi, Kano

The first batch of one million exercise books pledged by Zenith Bank, 250,000 of them, were handed over to the Kano State governor as part of the bank’s contribution towards achieving a successful implementation of free and compulsory basic and post-basic education policy and the integration of Almajiri system of education.

The bank was highly elated and moved by the policy, which was aimed at genuinely developing the state, the Northwest Zonal Head, Dr. Sani Yahaya, representing the Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director, said while handing over the books to the governor at Government House, Kano.

Yahaya hinted that “This is just a tip of an iceberg. It is part of our corporate social responsibility and we will keep on with what we have started. Your Excellency, this is not the first time our bank is showing genuine interest in the development of the state.”

He promised that the intervention would be continuous, as the bank is always ready to see to the development of all sectors in the state and the nation in general. “Your Excellency Sir, the integration of Almajiri system of education is indeed another landmark achievement. As well as a legacy you are leaving behind.”

He disclosed that the bank would also donate textbooks to the secondary schools, as another part of its gesture towards successful implementation of the free and compulsory education policy, adding that “we are preparing for another round of donation of textbooks for the secondary schools.”

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State commended the effort and described it as another milestone in the bank’s corporate social responsibility, adding that “this gesture shows that, yes, the free and compulsory primary and secondary education is gradually happening. It will continue to happen.

“The policy is highly loaded because, if you look at it very well, being the most populous state in the country, we have the highest number of school-age children in the country.

So we need the highest number of teaching and learning materials, more furniture, more classrooms, more teachers and so on and so forth.”
